So we have had a lot (and I mean a LOT of debate) on certain drivers and their driving abilities and why they shouldn't/should do what they've done in the past. I was browsing and saw this from the 89 season(infamous) This as well all should know is a classic piece of footage and by two of the greatest drivers ever to grace F1. I think we could debate this ALL day long ( I definitely could )  Big Grin Big Grin

My point is that throughout the years we've had rivalry good and bad, emotions is a huge factor of racing wheel to wheel and, obviously with that comes pressure, we can be very harsh on drivers if they do a mistake be it forced or unforced. Does it detract from their skills on the track? I don't think so because EVERY top driver who is competing for a title probably encounters a scenario against a rival (although not to this extreme, except Schumi and Villeneuve).

So when we see the "risky" overtakes or "WTF" moments we surely have to remember their mindsets in that moment, surely its "the need to win" or "beat" that opponent in that moment plus the adrenaline is flowing HARD. Do we not all love the entertainment of wheel to wheel racing? It is what we all crave to see during a race and yes we all have opinions and they differ but as someone said (F1fan I think) let the good times roll and have us going "YES!" or "oh shit why?"  we don't want everyone to be robots and boring we want hardcore racing for as long as we can get it. As long as no one is hurt of course.

Anyway I am sure we can discuss the finer details but as I have said "racing" is the main factor and the day that goes is the day F1 dies.

Oh yeah going back to the clip, was Senna naughty hell yeah, and was Prost thinking of DNF for Senna ends his championship? I reckon so, although it was in more controversial circumstances that Prost took the title, what I loved out of all this is actually what James Hunt said was right at the time (they hate each other) but I believe it was only whilst they were competing against each other, nobody who hates a man would bear his coffin, Ruthless on the track Gentleman to each other off the track out of racing I believe.

Although not typically F1 this engine had a incredible effect on Motorsport in general and an incredible lasting effect, fine British engineering indeed

"peerless performances"  > Found this on the BBC F1 site, thought others might enjoy.   Smile

Lewis Hamilton's storming victory (Silverstone, 2008) The 2008 British Grand Prix was held in conditions more suitable for the Boat Race.

Michael Schumacher's masterclass (Spanish Grand Prix, 1996) His 1996 Ferrari was said to be a "dog of a car"

Ayrton Senna's qualifying lap (Monaco, 1988) The dry facts: Senna out-qualified McLaren team-mate Alain Prost by an astonishing 1.4 seconds to take pole position.

Sir Jackie Stewart's marvellous 'rain race' (German Grand Prix, 1968) "When I got back to the pits, the first question I asked Ken [Tyrrell, team principal] was, 'Who died?'"

Juan Manuel Fangio's comeback (German Grand Prix, 1957) Regarded as the greatest ever, it seemed like the most relaxed comeback in Formula 1 history.

^^^What he said^^^

There's a reason why we all love wet races, no matter the formula of Motorsport, DTM, WEC, F1 etc. etc. etc. it generally limits engine advantages and requires the drivers to work damn hard to control their cars and find the limit. Sure, chassis's can help, but roughly speaking rain is an equaliser, especially when there is bucket loads of the stuff like Brazil 2016 where Lewis and Max were lapping nearly 3 seconds a lap quicker than everyone else at points in that race. I love me some rain.

100% agree with you Jody, although since Seb signed for us I hate the bloody sight of it over a race weekend  Tongue
